We are faced with an incredible amount of decisions to make every day.

Decaf or regular.

Jeans or casual pants.

Sneakers or flip flops.

And so on.

But really there is a decision you need to make that will impact how you will live the rest of your life.

The most important decision you will ever make is the choice to control your own mind. Yes you do have the ability to do this. You are in control of your thoughts. And some pretty deep thinkers have realized this as well.

A man is what he thinks about all day long-Raplh Waldo Emerson

Our life is what our thoughts make it- Marcus Aurelius

We become what we contemplate-Plato

The mind is everything; what you think you become-Buddha

Your thoughts are the key to your success(or failure)

You create the life you have. Every thought and decision you have ever made has led you to where you are right now in your life. That is a pretty powerful belief.

Have you ever seen a circus elephant that is chained to a tiny post with a tiny chain? The elephant is huge and could easily break free. Why don’t they just break free and walk away?

Well they are chained up as very young calves when they are not strong enough to break free. They try but cannot do it. So they eventually quit trying and just accept their fate. Mature elephants are not held by chains.

They are prisoners of their own minds.

So the question is, what chains are holding you back? If you answer “circumstances”, you are like the elephants. A prisoner of your own mind.

Your Subconscious Mind

If you tell yourself that you are successful, that there is opportunity, that you are happy, prosperous, healthy, your subconscious mind will prove it. You believe it to be true and it is.

If you tell yourself the opposite of all the above your mind believe that too and will prove it. It creates the life you think about.

So we need to start thinking of ourselves as positive, successful, happy, healthy, prosperous people who will achieve anything we want to achieve. It takes practice. Your self talk is important in creating these positive habits.

High Expectations

We are taught at a very young age to not dream too big so that we will not end up being too disappointed.

What a shame. I say dream big. Whatever you can dream you can achieve. Have a vision, a written goal or plan, or a business plan.

Go big or go home.

Michelangelo supposedly said,

The greatest danger is not that we aim too high and miss but that our aim is too low and we reach it

So where do we start?

Be grateful for all the blessings in your life. And expect more. More of yourself.

Others have achieved great things. And most of the people that achieved greatness were just regular folks who dared to dream big.

  • The belief that it can be done. Perception creates reality
  • Cultivate the desire. No one can do it for you. It is totally up to you.
  • Self discipline, patience and courage.
  • Get help from others who have achieved their dreams. You do not have to re-invent the wheel

Where is all of this coming from? I have been fascinated by Tiny houses for a while now but felt that is was beyond me to actually live in one.

Well now I see that there are many others who share this love of tiny homes, off grid living, eco housing etc. And there is not much in the way of resources to help us build our own. Yes there is an incredible amount of tiny house information on the internet.

But I need hands on help and information. So I want to start my own business. Hell others have done it so I am going to do it as well.

So I am looking for any other fellow Nova Scotians, Atlantic Canadians who are also interested in tiny houses and small house living. Please share this with everyone you know on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc.

I am trying to build a following and gauge the local interest.

You can achieve anything your mind can dream.

Thanks.

  1. Of COURSE you can do this! Don’t doubt it for a second. Just begin today where you are and move in that direction today. And whatever you learn along the way will just be more inspiration to where you need/want to go after that! Remember, just like with most things in life…it is the journey–NOT the destination and you will be fine….

Wow! We plan on starting the build of our own tiny home next year as well. All the luck in the world! Love your writing style and blog 🙂
